The City of San Diego seeded the fairways and greens in 1931; an earlier course opened in Balboa Park in 1897 and remained in use until the Panama-Pacific Exposition took its space in 1913;

In 2010, Balboa Park had an 18-hole, par 72 golf course and a 9-hole, par 32 executive golf course. The 18-hole course was 5,801 yards (regular tee position), the 9-hole, 2,175 yards (regular tee).
