The noted architect Lionel H. Pries designed this small house for educator Frank Morley Fletcher in 1926.
Building History
Architect Lionel H. Pries (1897-1968) designed this residence for Frank Morley Fletcher, an Englishman, who was the new head of the Santa Barbara School of the Arts. It was located at 19 Puesta del Sol, a street which has since been renumbered.
Pries would later became a significant architectural educaor at the University of Washington.
Building Notes
The Fletcher House won a "special award" in the five-room category of the 1927 Santa Barbara Better Homes competition. This competition was a local level of a larger national competition for residential design. (See "Judges Select Winning Homes in '27 Contest," Santa Barbara Daily News, 05/23/1927, section 2, p. 9.)
