Charles Chuck Bassett and Hertzka and Knowles designed the building to be 94 m (308 feet) high with 20 stories; the architects chose to separate the elevator, stair, and utilities shafts from the office portion of the tower, similar to the parti used by SOM Chicago at the Inland Steel Building one year before;
