Overview

In 1890, the 1st National Bank of Los Angeles operated at 226 North Main Street. (SeeLos Angeles, California, City Directory, 1890, p. 334.) In this year, many banks were clustered along the 200 block of North Main Street. These included: the Farmers and Merchants Bank (230 North Main), 1st National Bank (226 North Main), Los Angeles County Bank (North Main, Spring and Temple Streets), and Los Angeles Savings Bank (236 North Main). Another cluster was located one block away on Spring Street.

Building Notes

In 09/1882, E.F. Spence served as President of the 1st National Bank of Los Angeles. bank directors included J.E. Hollenbeck, F. Crank, H. MAbury, O.S. Witherby, and E.F. Spence.
