In 1887, this intersection was called Daly Street and Downey Avenue, named for John G. Downey, 7th governor of California from 1860 to 1862.

Overview

This church was in operation at the corner of Daly Street and Downey Avenue (later renamed North Broadway). In 1887, its pastor was Rev. C.S. Sprecher. (SeeLos Angeles, California, City Directory, 1887, p. 367.) This church seems to have functioned from about 1887 until c. 1898 when a new chapel was built.
