Building History

In 04/1975, Vincent Miranda of Sherman Oaks, CA, bought the Balboa Theatre from William Alford of Palm Springs; in 05/1975, Miranda and his company, Walnut Properties, owned 38 theatres showing adult movies, 24 of them were part of his "Pussycat" chain. During 1975, Newport Beach Police harrassed the Pussycat Theatre with multiple raids of films.

Alteration

In 2008, the Balboa Theatre was being renovated to serve as a movie theatre and performing arts center for Newport Beach. The Balboa Performing Arts Theater Foundation and its head, Dayna Pettit, led the $2.5 million effort to restore the building.
