Built by early Chinese-American settlers in California; this is the only temple in the U.S. dedicated to the Chinese water god, Bok Kai. In 2001, the temple received a grant of $2,006 from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and $5,000 from another preservation organization, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Fund for Historic Interiors, to create a plan for conservation of the facility; it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, level of significance: State. In 2007, it was owned by the non-profit group, Marysville Chinese Community Incorporated.
