Formed around the historic Zions Cooperative Mercantile Institution (ZCMI) department store, this redevelopment plan was to cover 10 acres in downtown Salt Lake City, UT; the plan was to yield a new 450,000 sqaure foot ZCMI outlet, 300,000 square feet of other retail, and a six-level parking garage; Gruen worked with architect, Stephen T. Baird, on the preservation of the nineteenth-century ZCMI store facade which was the only portion of the building retained;
