This hotel, built on bayfront two miles from the busy San Francisco Airport (SFO), was one of several lining the same frontage road off of US Highway 101, including the San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront at 1800 Old Bayshore Highway, the Vagabond Inn Executive San Francisco Bayfront Airport Hotel 1640 Old Bayshore Highway and the Westin San Francisco Airport, 1 Old Bayshore Highway, Millbrae, CA. In 2013, it was the largest airport hotel in Northern CA, and the sixth largest in the Bay Area.

According to an article in Building Design and Construction, 03/1989, "...The Hyatt Regency Hotel in Burlingame, Calif., has an 182-ft. by 182-ft. space frame that is covered by a Teflon-coated fiberglass fabric. A glass daylight system is attached to its perimeter." (See "Skylights, space frames expand design options," Building Design and Construction, vol 30, no. 3, 03/1989, p.97.) In 2013, the Hyatt Regency Hotel Burlingame had 789 guestrooms, including 26 suites / parlors, 344 kings, 42 queens, 377 doubles and eight smoking rooms. Tel: 866.715.0006 (2013). For commercial events and receptions, the hotel had 52,623 square feet of space, 8,235 square feet of pre-function space, 18,148 square feet of exhibit space and a 4,740-square-foot exterior Poolside Pavilion. In 2013, the Hyatt Regency Burlingame web site indicated that the hotel had recently undergone a $27-million renovation.
