Sculptor Charles O. Perry alludes to astronomical phenomena in his work; in this case, "Eclipse" was a 35-foot-tall sphere composed of 12 pentagons (and 1,400 parts). Aluminum tubing, anodized gold, comprises the complex geometric form. It has become a fixture within this towering atrium space. Members of the American Institute of Architects gathered for their annual convention in San Francisco, CA, in 06/1973, and many spent time touring John Portman's spectacular new design.
