Altered after its name was changed to the Elmwood Theatre, c. 1947; altered into a tri-plex theatre after a fire (started in a building next door) occurred 10/1988; United Artists. the owner before the fire, tried to sell the parcel to a developer after the blaze, but neighborhood protests put an end to that; the main alteration after the fire was that two theatres were formed from one of its original balconies; the developer who tri-plexed the Elmwood obtained Art Deco light fixtures from the Merced Theatre, Merced, CA;
