The Round House occupied a space bounded by Main Street on the east, Spring Street on the west, 3rd Street on the north and 4th Street on the south;

German immigrant, George Lehman, opened a beer garden on a piece of property that had a round adobe on it in the late 1850s; it became a favorite social center known as "The Round House." After its closure, the property served as Los Angeles's first kindergarten, operated by Kate Douglas Wiggin; the building was in use from c. 1850 - 1887.
