Chicago-based Perkins & Will designed this $12.9-million elementary school; Belmont Elementary was projected to serve 1,200 year-round students in grades K-5; In 2002, the Los Angeles Unified School District needed to create 112,000 new seats at 80 new schools, Belmont being one of them;

To build this school, Stiles O. Clements's KEHE Radio Building was demolished in 2003.
