Building History

In 1913, Henry Heinzelman Timken, Vice President of the San Diego Securities Company, maintained his office in Room #810 on the top floor of the Timken Building. (See San Diego, California, City Directory, 1913, p. 967.) Ten years later, Timken had become the President of the San Diego Securities Company and the El Monte Ranch Company, and still occupied Room #810. According to the San Diego, California, City Directory, 1923, (p. 1026), the Timken Building had recently been renamed the "Electric Building." Henry H. Timken was the son of Henry Timken, the inventor and founder of the highly successful Timken Roller Bearing Axle Company.

During the late 1920s, the Citizen's Savings Bank occupied space in the Timken Building.

Alteration

The exterior of the Timken Building has been heavily altered, with many ornamental details having been removed during "modernization" efforts.
