Craig Ellwood designed this manufacturing plant in 1965 and supervised its erection in 1966; Xerox operated the El Seguno Manufacturing Center in 1972, and used it to assist sub-contractor, Clement Designlabs, to manufacture the first 80 Xerox Alto personal computers, a revolutionary machine utilizing various technologies that would become common in later Apple and IBM personal computers.
The El Segundo manufacturing facility had 260,000 square feet and was 560 by 464 feet.
