A brief note in the magazine Architecture / West in 02/1963 stated: "Joseph Esherick, professor of architecture, University of California, and a member of the San Francisco Art Commission, has been named to design the proposed Sacramento Crocker Arts Center. 41 architects were considered." (See "Awards and Appointments," Architecture / West, vol. 69, no. 2, 02/1963, p. 8.)
