Overview
The house occupied a triangular lot on the northwest corner of NE Perkins Way and 15th Avenue NE. Architect James A. Jessup’s design reflected the influence of the Sea Ranch architecture of the San Francisco architectural firm of Moore Lyndon Turnbull Whitaker (MLTW) that was very strong on the West Coast and later nationally for single-family residence, apartment and townhouse design during the 1970s and 1980s.
Building History
Architect James A. Jessup (born 1938) designed this residence with its shed roofs, cantilevered porch and diagonal wood siding in 1979. With theses design features it recalled the architectural vocabulary developed by MLTW and the Sea Ranch development and other work produced by Charles Moore and William Turnbull during the 1960s and 1970s. Jessup's fame rested largely on his designs for houseboats, so this dwelling on land stands out as unusual.
The house was bought and sold several times between 1999 and 2023. On 02/23/1999, Nancy L. Symonds sold the house to Christopher and Pamela Dash for $188,600. (The deed was refiled on 09/20/2004 to include only Christopher Dasef’s name.) Dasef sold the house to Orlando Cano and Elizabeth Petrus on 09/20/2004 for $243,400. Cano and Petrus sold the property other than Scott A. Mendoza and Ikuta Kimberly Nudiru on 07/12/2012 for $295,000. They sold it four years later on 06/17/2016 for $415,000 to Laurie Frasher. (The deed was rewritten to include Frasher and James G. McMeachin on 06/21/2018.) The property appreciated by about $300,000 in five years, when Frasher and McMeachin sold it to Cory Odgers and Ashley L. Larson on 08/24/2023 for $710,000.
