German immigrant Leopold Hart (born 02/07/1829 in Forbach, Lorraine, France- d. 04/12/1904 in San Jose, CA) operated general merchandise stores in Los Angeles and Santa Clara, CA, before opening his Corner Cash Store located on the southeast corner of Market Street and Santa Clara Street in San Jose, CA's central business district by 1890.
