Born in Trondheim, Sør-Trøndelag, Norway, and immigrating to the US in 1871, Otto Christian Napoleon Gunderson (1857-1943) operated a steam-cleaning works in Spokane, WA, c. 1893 at South 117 Howard Street. Gunderson's firm specialized in the cleaning of carpets but also repaired umbrellas. (See R.L. Polk and Company's Spokane, Washington, City Directory, 1893, p. 335.)
