Overview

Prolific Spokane architect Herman Preusse designed many structures in the city following the large fire of 08/04/1889 that wiped out 32 blocks of the downtown. The Merton Block was one of a number designed by Preusse in 1889-1890, including the nearby Chamber of Commerce Building.

Demolition

The Merton Building was razed in 2004, before the neighboring Rookery Building #2 and Mohawk Building were razed about three years later.
