Building History
The Brunswick Hotel was one the tallest buildings in Oakland, CA, c. 1880, with its tower reaching 100-feet high. Advertising from 1886 also noted that it was the only hotel in Oakland to possess an elevator. A. Ross was the hotel's manager in 1886.
Building Notes
The Girard House Hotel stood next door in 1889. The Oakland Home Fire Insurance Company occupied a first-floor office space in that year. (See Oakland Wiki.org, "Brunswick Hotel," accessed 01/15/2025.)
In 1896, Olson Brothers Grocery occupied a first-floor storefront at 951-953 9th Street. The hotel entrance was at 955 9th.
Demolition
