Overview
The original hospital and elderly living facility was designed in the Mission Revival style and consisted of several buildings originally.
Building History
Iniitally, Father William B. O'Connor considered creating an elderly living facility in Stockton, CA, but was convinced by local physicians that a hospital and elderly care center would be a better combination. When it opened on 12/21/1899, the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael staffed the Saint Joseph's Hospital in Stockton, equipped with 25 beds. In 2025, Saint Joseph's had grown to include 355 beds, and employ 2300 people, including approximately 900 physicians.
