Popper's Building stood on the southeastern corner of 3rd and Mission.

Building History

The unfinished Popper's Buildng, a commercial structure located on the southeast corner of 3rd and Mission Streets, was heavily damaged by a large earthquake on 10/08/1865. The Daily Alta California newspaper reported of this building's condition: "The unfinished four-story brick (Popper's) southeast corner of Third and Mission streets. Two-thirds of the entire front on Third street, and a portion of the rear fire-wall, are down. The street has been fenced up to prevent accidents in case of the falling of any more of the wall. It is not probable that the entire building will need to be demolished. A frame dwelling on Mission street, adjoining Popper's building, had its peaked roof knocked into a cocked hat by the falling bricks from the east wall of Popper's building."

Alteration

As noted above, Popper's Building was heavily damaged in the Earthquake of 10/08/1865, although it is not known whether it was rebuilt.
