Building History

CT-born businessman William R. Staats (1867-1928) settled in Pasadena, CA, in 1886, and became a wealthy investor in Southern CA real estate and railroads. By the 20th century, he commissioned the construction of this office building at 65 South Raymond Avenue to house his eponymous bond and investment business. In 1917, the William R. Staats Company was led by Staats, president; F.C. Monroe, vice-president; J.E. Jardine, vice-president; John M. Edminson, vice-president; Lloyd R. Macy, secretary; B.G. McMechan, treasurer; and J.E. Coggeshall, assistant treasurer. Staats maintained a financial interest in a real estate and insurance busienss with Lloyd R. Macy, also headquartered at 65 South Raymond Avenue.
