Building History

Daniel F. Miller, who had previously worked for the noted Seattle architectural firm of Waldron and Dietz, designed the Cedar Way Elementary School for the Edmonds School District #15 in 1958. The Seattle Sunday Times published an illustration of the building in its issue of 03/01/1959: “In Edmonds: The Venne Beauchamp Construction Co. has begun construction of the Cedar Way Elementary School in Edmonds. It will be ready for occupancy August 15. The school was designed by Dan F. Miller, Edmonds architect. It will be of steel-frame construction, with pumice-block walls, and built-up roof with decking of pressed wood fiber. The classrooms will window walls, set in aluminum sash, with low panels of cement-asbestos board. The all-purpose building is at the left and six buildings, containing 20 classrooms, complete the circle. Administration facilities will be in the center building. Callahan Plumbing & Heating, and Ewing Electric Co. hold the subcontracts. The school will cost $534,000.”(See “In Edmonds,” Seattle Sunday Times, 03/01/1959, p. 31.)
