Building History
Kirtland K. Cutter (1860-1939) designed this 4,000-square-foot residence for John Clock, a Long Beach lawyer, and his wife Blanche, who lived in the house between 1935 and 1975. After John's death in 1975, Blanche sold the property to surgeon William Stanton (d. 2018) and his wife Mary Stanton, who resided here from 1975 until about 2020. Mary Stanton served as a member of the Long Beach Unified School District Board for 24 years, according to Tim Grobaty in an Long Beach Post.com article of 02/24/2020. (See Tim Grobaty, Long Beach Post.com, "Go back in time with the historical ‘Clock House,’ on the market for $2.19 million," published 02/24/2020, accessed 11/19/2024.)
The landscaping was designed by the noted Los Angeles landscape architect, Ralph D. Cornell (1890-1972).
