Overview
The Birch Block stood on the northeast corner of Wall Street and 2nd Avenue in 1908. (See R.L. Polk and Company's Spokane, Washington, City Directory, 1908, p. 213.) It opened in either late 1904 or early 1905.
Building History
In 1910, the Birch Apartments operated at 616 2nd Avenue in Spokane, with Malcolm McLean the proprietor. (See R.L. Polk and Company's Spokane, Washington, City Directory, 1910, p. 215.)
A note in the American Architectstated in 1912: "Fred H. Mason, president of the Holley-Mason Company, has purchased the Birch block at corner of Second and Wall Sts. and is planning to erect an apartment house." (See "Washington," American Architect, vol. CII, no, 1926, 11/20/1912, p. 16.)
