Overview

Opening in 2023, Skyglass Apartments stood 32 floors above its South Lake Union context and contained studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments for rent. Developers of this apartment tower, Gemdale USA Corporation, put a high premium on the building's sculptural appeal and numerous artworks to attract tenants. Like many towers in Downtown Seattle, Skyglass was quite pricey, likely targeting wealthy, high-tech employees of Amazon.com and other companies.

Building History

Hewitt designed this 362-foot-tall (110 m) apartment tower for Gemdale USA Corporation, a Shenzhen, Guangdong-based real estate firm with US headquarters in Pasadena, CA.

Building Notes

The Skyglass Apartment Tower was composed of three basic formal elements: A four-floor, rectangular base veneered mostly in brick; a stack of three undulating, arrow-shaped, glazed apartment units; and a rooftop cube housing HVAC and elevator machinery. The rooftop also accommodated a swimming pool.
