Building History
Spokane architect Albert Held (1866-1924) designed this $80,000 hotel building for the Inland Investment Company. According to a 1912 newspaper report in the Spokane Daily Chronicle: “The Inland Investment Company is made up of local capital. It is the concern which built the Globe hotel building at Main avenue and Division street, as well as the Globe Hotel Annex adjoining it on the north.” (See “Start Work on Fine New Building,” Spokane Daily Chronicle, 10/10/1912, p. 15.)
The Globe Hotel opened on Monday, 10/19/1908. An article in the Spokane Spokesman-Review said of the new hotel: "The building is constructed of light pressed brick, with terra cotta trimmings. It has a frontage of 100 feet on Main avenue and of 88 feet on Division street. There are 72 rooms in the hotel, 32 of which have private bath. The rooms are all elegantly finished and have outside light, hot and cold water and private telephone. There is a full cement basement under the building, which will be heated with a vacuum steam system. On the ground floor are four large store rooms, the corner one to be occupied by a drug store and two others to be used for the hotel office and bar. The fourth is now occupied by a cigar and fruit store. H.F. Sorg, one of the owners of the Club cafe and a stockholder in the Inland Investment company, is to be proprietor of the new hotel. Mr. Sorg says that a dining room will be installed in the building next spring in the room just back of the office, opening on Main avenue." (See "Globe Hotel Will Open," Spokane Spokesman-Review, 10/18/1908, p. 14.)
Alteration
An annex to the Globe Hotel was erected before 1912, to the north of the Globe Hotel building.
