Building History
San Francisco architect William H. Crim, Jr., (1879-1930) designed this building for the 2nd Church of Christ Scientist congregation in 1915. A note in the San Francisco Examiner said of the new church: “Architect William H. Crim, Jr., is completing working drawings and will shortly call for figures for the construction of a new church building for the Second Church of Christ Scientist at a cost of $60,000. The building will be erected at the corner of Dolores and Cumberland streets. Construction will be of brick and steel. Interior finish will be of pine and ornamental plaster. There will be a central heating system. Exterior will be faced with pressed brick.” (See “$60,000 Church Building,” San Francisco Examiner, 12/19/1915, p. 43.)
