Building History
Shattuck's Building operated on the southwest corner of Broadway and 8th Street in 1873. A neighboring building on the west side of Broadway between 7th and 8th Streets was known as the "Shattuck and Hillegass Building," where Francis K. Shattuck and William Hillegass maintained their real estate and livery business at the same time. Both Shattuck and Hillegass gave their surnames to avenues in the City of Berkeley.
