Building History

Between 1938 and 1950, at least, a wholesale merchant, George Fred Young (born 02/03/1885 in MO-d. 03/19/1952 in Los Angeles County, CA) lived at 801 North Rexford Drive along with his wife Edith G. Bissell Russo (born 01/30/1892 in NE-d. 04/01/1983 in Los Angeles County, CA) and a domestic worker Helen Jean Harris (born c. 1911 in TX-d. d. 02/1976 in Apple Valley, CA.). (See Beverly Hills, California, City Directory, 1938, p. 135.) As noted on the 1940 US Census, the Youngs reported that their house was worth about $40,000 at that time. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation National Archives at Washington, DC; Washington, D.C.; Seventeenth Census of the United States, 1950; Year: 1950; Census Place: Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California; Roll: 2127; Page: 9; Enumeration District: 19-165, accessed 05/02/2024.) They continued to reside in this same house in 1950, but no longer employed Helen Harris. George Young died in 1952.
