Building History

Erected in 1899-1900, this one-floor, gable-roofed building served San Joaquin County officials working in the then-unincorporated town of Tracy, CA. Tracy did incorporate in 1910, and after this functioned as a city hall before a new municipal building was built elsewhere. In 1936, the city clerk's office, fire department chief, and police department chief had offices in the Tracy Municipal Building. The City Jail and the Office of the Recorder, however, were still located at 25 West 7th Street in 1936. (See R.L. Polk and Company's Tracy, California, City Directory, 1936, p. 631.)

In 1956, the Tracy City Hall was located in a commercial building in Tracy's Downtown area, at 1035 North Central Avenue. (See Tracy, California, City Directory, 1956, p. 113.)

In later years, the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post used the building for its activities. In 2024, the offices of the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts occipied space here.
