Overview
The notable and prolific Northern CA architect William H. Weeks designed this utilitarian City Hall for Winters, CA, in Yolo County.
Building History
The architect WIlliam Henry Weeks (1864-1936) likely designed the Winters City Hall in 1914 or 1915, just before he transferred his architectural practice from Watsonville, CA, to San Francisco, CA, in 1916. Ornamentation was limited to the area around the front door, with two fluted columns supporting an entablature and gables pediment. The cornice line also had some terra-cotta ornamentation, with some swags and escutcheons situated just below the parapet. A simple rectangle in shape, it had a minimum of other decorative flourishes, save for its concrete lintels and brickwork detailing.
Building Notes
A later building with a stepped parapet on its front facade, housing the Winters Police Department, stood to the west of the CIty Hall on Abbey Street.
