The Keeler House was an early commission for Maybeck by his friend, the poet and environmentalist, Charles Keeler. Charles Augustus Keeler (1871-1937) wrote a short book entitled, "The Simple Home," (1904) that urged restraint in the design of new residences and new awareness of the environment surrounding the house.
Maybeck also built a studio for Keeler, on the same property, just after 1900.
