Building History

M.L. Templeton was the Principal of the Franklin Grammar School in 1866. It operated inside the Sacramento Union Newspaper Building on the corner of 7th and G Streets with an enrollment of 55. The Intermediate School #1 also occupied space in this building in 1866, with a woman, J.G. Kercheval, acting as principal. There were 93 students at this time. In addition, the Sacramento Public Schools' Primary School #1 also operated here, with Emma Gardner as principal. She administered 192 pupils in 1866.
