Building History

The Sacramento, California, City Directory, 1866, (p. 28) said of the Franklin Grammar School: “In 1856, the lot corner of L and Sixth streets was purchased for $5,000, and a brick building (Franklin) erected thereon at a cost of from $15,000 to $20,000.” In 1866, James L. Fogg served as principal of the school that had 150 pupils.
