The Sacramento, California, City Directory, 1866, (p. 28), indicated that a school was opened in an existing building on I Street near 10th, soon after the establishment of the first Sacramento Public School in 02/1854. A man by the name of A.R. Jackson was its first principal. It was likely established by 1855 or 1856.
