Building History
In 1866, the Sacramento Public Schools operated a "Colored School" for non-Caucasian students. Julia Folger was its principal in 1866. It operated on 5th Street between N and O in a brick building, with 47 pupils attending. (See Sacramento, California, City Directory, 1866, p. 29.)
