An article in the The Dalles Chronicle of 06/24/2012 stated: "A water system improvement program spread over five or six years and costing more than a half-million dollars was presented in detail for Dalles City council study Monday night. H. Loren Thompson of Stevens & Thompson Engineers, Portland, presented his firm’s report on extensive studies of both present and future water needs of the city. Thompson’s appraisal of the problem dealt with the immediate needs, for achievement of proper fire protection, and the future needs occasioned by Dalles dam construction."
