Building History
The Central Pacific Railroad (CPRR) opened its Northern Railway between Martinez, CA, and Oakland, CA, on 09/22/1877. This wood-frame building served this initial Northern Railway line of the CPRR. The Southern Pacific Railway Company began to rent this facility beginning in 1885. After 1891, the Southern Pacific used this depot on its San Ramon route that operated passenger service until 1931.
Alteration
The eastern side of the building originally was two-stories tall, like many SP railroad depots of the period. This second story was taken down in 1942.
