Building History

The Library of Congress said of the Eureka Hotel and its multiple incarnations: "Originally frame-built circa 1852 by John Meyers and named Eureka House, it began as a boarding house. The hotel burned and was rebuilt three times; the final and existing rebuild was with brick. Each time, it got a new name: the Empire Hotel, George Hotel (named for proprietor B.F. George) and the present St. George Hotel."

Demolition

The Eureka Hotel #1 burned c. 1858. A second hotel was built on the site.
