Overview
Architect William Doty Van Siclen designed the Tognazzi Building at the start of his career in an eclectic mix of Queen Anne and Richardsonian Romanesque elements. Building History
As per the Preservation Action Council of San Jose, two Swiss-born grocers, Baptista G. Tognazzi and Camillo Togni, commissioned the young architect William D. Van Siclen to design a hybrid Richardsonian Romanesque and Queen Anne style building for them. According to this historic preservation group, "The building held a grocery store through at least the 1930s; today it is home to Trials Pub and a portion of Teske’s Germania restaurant and beer garden."
