Overview

Thomas Snow and Company's Boiler Works operated in San Francisco, CA, between about 1855 and 1858. It was purchased by employees Coffey and Risdon in about 1858.

Building History

Thomas Snow founded his Thomas Snow and Company Boiler Works and sheet metal plant in about 1855. It was purchased by employees Coffey and Risdon in 1857 or 1858. According to an advertisement placed in the San Francisco, California, City Directory, 1858: "The undersigned, who have been Foremen, Managers and Acive Partners in the above establishment for the past three years, having purchased Mr. Snow's interest in the same, will continue the business as heretofore, at the Old Stand, where we are prepared to manufacture steam boilers of every description, steam and water pipes and do sheet iron work of all kinds on the shortest notice, and on the most reasonable terms. Particular attention paid to all orders from the Mines for Steam Boilers or Water Pipe, Engines or Pumps for mining purposes." (See San Francisco, California, City Directory, 1858,p. 138.) As made clear in this advertisement, money from those doing mining in CA was still a lucrative business in 1858.
