Building History
The Los Angeles architectural firm of Morgan, Walls and Clements designed the Belvedere Gardens Public Market in 1937. It was one of the last commissions done by the firm, formed in 1923. The Los Angeles Times published a note on its construction in 1937: "“General contract has been awarded to the Herbert M. Baruch Corporation for construction of a large market building at 4761 Whittier Boulevard for the Belvedere Gardens Public Market. Morgan, Walls & Clements are the architects. The structure will be one story, 160 x 150 feet in area with a basement.” (See "Market Contract Let," Los Angeles Times, 06/20/1937, pt. V, p. 5.)
