Building History

A brief note in the Spokane Spokesman-Review said of the Cottage Hotel, Chewelah, WA, in 1965: "The Cottage Hotel, built here in 1900, is being dismantled. Its owners, Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Moorhead, said the hotel is being torn down because there isn't much demand for room and board facilities here anymore. Mrs. Moorhead is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs, E.B. Reeder, who purchased the hotel in 1920. The daughter of a previous owner, Mrs. Barbara Chapman, recalls the Cottage Hotel was sold to her mother, Mrs. Margaret Wiltz, for $1,200 in 1905." (See "Early Hotel Being Razed," Spokane Spokesman-Review, 04/23/1965, p. 5.)

Demolition

The Cottage Hotel was likely razed in mid-1965.
