This was an original men's dormitory on the Whitworth College campus, completed in 1914. After being rebuilt in 1928, it was named for Willian Rankin Ballard (1847-1929), who served as a Whitworth College trustee between 1892 and 1912. (See Whitworth University.edu, "2022-2023 Academic Catalog: Student Housing," accessed 03/20/2023.)

It burned in 1927, and was rebuilt the following year.
