Overview

In the early 20th century, this hotel was operated by a Japanese-American proprietor, W.K. Saito.

Building History

In 1914, W.K. Saito was the proprietor of the Hotel US. K. Yoshida was its manager. (See R.L. Polk and Company's Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1914, p. 925.) This hotel would have served an Asian-American clientele who would have been refused service at most other establishments in the city. There were a number of hotels operating in and near the International District that catered to groups unable gain admittance elsewhere, including the Hotel Togo at 309 Maynard Avenue and the Hotel Tacoma at 822 South Jackson Street.

The International Apartments were sold on 07/30/2018 to an entity called "CRE 315 Maynard LLC" for the price of $7.588,000. According to the King County Assessor, this land and building at this site had escalated in value to $10,894,000 for the tax year 2023. (See King County.gov. "King County Department of Assessments, Parcel Data for Parcel 524780-1990," accessed 02/16/2023.)
