Overview
Operating on the corner of Front and Washington Streets in 1863, the Pioneer Hotel claimed to the oldest and largest hotel in the Oregon Territory, with room for 300 guests.
Building History
In 1863, S.N. Arrigoni managed the Pioneer Hotel in Portland, OR. According to an advertisement in the Portland, Oregon Directory, 1863, the Pioneer Hotel contained a reading room, bar, bath house and barber shop, and the California Stage Company maintained its Portland stage coach shop on the first floor. As noted in the 1863 directory, "It is convenient to the Steamboat Landings, Post Office and Express Offices." (See The Portland Directory for the Year 1863, [Portland, OR: S.J.
