Building History
The R.B. Miles developed a specialty building infrastructure buildings and structures for public agencies during the 1960s.The contract to erect steel buildings at the Wanapum Dam for the Grant County Public Utility District #2 went to Miles Construction and a subcontractor the Dix Steel Company, responsible for the installation of the steel buildings. Dix Steel was an agent for the Inland Steel Products Company, which actually manufactured the buildings. Communication problems among the three contract partners resulted in delays that triggered contractual late-fee penalties to be paid by Miles. Miles ultimately sued Dix for breach of contract and won its case in the Washington State Supreme Court. (See Castext.com, The Supreme Court of Washington, Department One, "Dix Steel Co. v. Miles Construction, Inc.," 443 P.2d 532, 74 Wash. 2d 114 [1968].)
